More heavy rain and gale warnings

The River Irwell has now been given the all clear

Severe flood warnings are still in place after heavy rain swept through Lancashire overnight.

The Environment Agency has warned some areas in the county could see a month's rainfall in one day. Up to two-and-a-half inches fell on Wednesday.

The River Lune near Lancaster is still being monitored and a flood warning near Skerton Pool is in place.

Blackburn, with Darwen and Blackpool, could be hit with 60mph winds and more heavy rain, say to the Met Office.

Rainfall accumulations of 30 to 60mm are expected with 70 to 100mm, over higher ground.

Greater Manchester, Merseyside and some parts of Cheshire are expected to see widespread rain and gales in places with winds gusting about 60mph.

The River Irwell, which had bursts its banks into Nuttall Park, Ramsbottom, and had threatened to flood at Chatterton and Strongstry has now resided and has been given the all clear by the Environment Agency.

Flood watches remain around the River Ribble at Preston and Darwen.
