London celebration plans unveiled

Events during the month will include a Tudor river pageant

Plans for a month-long celebration of London which include live music, lectures and walking tours throughout June, have been unveiled.

Inspired by the city's past, present and future, events being organised for the Story of London involve a Tudor river pageant.

There will also be a film and jazz weekend which will put on rare screenings and children's workshops.

London mayor Boris Johnson said the event would have "superb attractions".

Mr Johnson said: "There are so many stories to tell, in so many different ways, and the Story of London will be a kaleidoscopic exposition of the city's past, present and future.

Living history

"It will bring together some superb attractions for visitors and Londoners, who will also be able to 'revisit' their city with fresh eyes."

Highlights will see a living history weekend taking place to mark the 500th anniversary year of King Henry VII's accession to the throne.

The British Film Institute Jazz and Film Weekender will put on free films and live music.

The Museum of London, the Royal Academy of Music and local schools will also be taking part.

Historian Tristram Hunt will curate a weekend of lectures while walking tours explaining the "story of London" will be organised.
