Councillors in Lewes want stores to prevent trolleys being dumped

A council plans to levy charges against shops and supermarkets over abandoned shopping trolleys it has to deal with.
A �50 charge will be made for trolleys collected from Lewes District Council by store owners - rising to �75 if they have to be returned.
The council said up to 10 trolleys were dumped each week in Lewes alone, with more in the rest of the area which stretches from Newhaven up to Newick.
It said it hoped stores would take action over trolley issues as a result.
Councillor Eddie Collict said: "It is not too much to ask for huge companies to take responsibility for the problem."
The council said dumped trolleys often had to be dragged out of ditches and watercourses on the Lewes Railway Land Nature Reserve.
