Nancy Reeve spent a night in hospital after the mugging

A 90-year-old woman had to have stitches to her face and hand after she was pushed to the floor and had her handbag stolen.

Nancy Reeve was attacked as she made her way to the Trinity Way tram stop in West Bromwich, West Midlands, on Saturday morning.

British Transport Police said she was walking along a pathway to the stop when she was pushed from behind.

She managed to make her way back home before contacting a neighbour.

She had a cut to her right eye and a cut on her left hand, as well as bruising to her knees.

'Hard thud'

She spent a night in hospital before leaving to be looked after by her family.

British Transport Police said Mrs Reeve had been on her way to catch a tram so she could lay flowers at her husband's headstone.

She told officers she felt a "hard thud" on her back and then fell, breaking her spectacles.

After picking herself up, she released she was bleeding and made her way home. She then realised her bag was missing.

Det Sgt Shanie Erwin said: "Mrs Reeve, her family and neighbours in this close-knit community have been shocked and saddened by what happened and are desperate to see the person responsible for this attack brought to justice."
