Veteran US director Arthur Penn is to receive a lifetime achievement award at next year's Berlin Film Festival.
The Missouri Breaks director, 84, will receive a Golden Bear at the annual event in February.
"He is a great director, who deeply influenced the American cinema
d'auteur," said festival director Dieter Kosslick in a statement.
The festival will include a film homage to the film-maker, including classics
Bonnie and Clyde and Little Big Man.
"Arthur Penn's films of the 1960s and early 1970s reanimated the crisis-ridden American cinema," said Mr Kosslick.
Penn has directed eight different actors in Oscar-nominated performances, including Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway for Bonnie and Clyde.
