BBC News website reader Siavash Kheirkhah sent his photos of Monday's rally in Tehran to mark the 29th anniversary of Iran's Islamic revolution.

Millions of Iranians are thought to have turned out for rallies across the country, marking the revolution which toppled the pro-US shah and brought hard-line clerics into power.

Iran will hold parliamentary elections in mid-March. President Ahmadinejad's interior ministry has disqualified more than 2,000 pro-reformists from running in the election.

Politics aside, the anniversary of the revolution is a day out for all the family. These women are wearing the Islamic chador, or full-body cloak.

Special children's events were organised at the rally to encourage everybody to turn up.
