Youth projects get crime funding

The justice secretary visited one of 110 project which will benefit from the cash

The justice secretary has been visiting a youth cafe in Edinburgh which is to receive money from crime proceeds.

The City Youth Cafi is one of 110 projects across Scotland which will receive a share of �1.2m in funding.

Kenny MacAskill also met youngsters who will benefit from a 30-week long horseriding and equine care course.

The cash is money which has been confiscated by police and courts as the proceeds of crime. A film-making project in Glenrothes also benefits.

Mr MacAskill said: "The Scottish Government is committed to giving our young people the opportunity to realise their potential and to be all they can be.

"It is therefore fitting that we are taking the money from criminals and using it to support youth projects in every part of the country.

"The devil makes work for idle hands, so we want to ensure that our young people have positive things to do with their lives. We want to show them that there can be so much more to life than drink, drugs and offending."
