Secondary school pupils in the Highlands have been praised for the level of results gained from exams. After pupils started receiving their results, Highland Council said 64 youngsters gained at least five Higher awards at grade A. The authority said this represented a major increase from the 44 and 43 pupils of the past two years. In Standard Grades, the number gaining General and Intermediate 1 level grades was the best in three years. Education director Hugh Fraser said: "We are presently in the process of verifying the results with our schools. "If the accuracy is confirmed, then this will be a very encouraging picture for schools and pupils in Highland."
