New editor of the Sun appointed

Dominic Mohan began his career at the News of the World

Former showbusiness reporter Dominic Mohan has been appointed as the new editor of the Sun newspaper.

Mohan, 40, who has been deputy editor since 2007, will replace Rebekah Brooks when she steps down next month.

He has worked at the Sun for 13 years, previously editing the Bizarre showbusiness column and heading up the features department.

Brooks, who has edited the Sun since January 2003, will become chief executive of News International.

The corporation also owns the Times, Sunday Times and News of the World newspapers.

'Talented successor'

Mohan, who began his career as a reporter at the News of the World, said: "It is a privilege to take over as editor and I cannot wait to get started."

Mohan will take over from Rebekah Brooks who has edited since 2003

James Murdoch, chairman and chief executive for Europe and Asia of News International's parent company News Corporation, said: "Dominic has proved himself a very capable deputy to Rebekah, sharing her passion for campaigning journalism on the issues that connect with the country."

Brooks will edit her final edition of the Sun on 1 September with Mohan taking over the following day.

She said: "Dominic has been an outstanding leader at the paper, supporting me with energy and enthusiasm. I am delighted to be handing the reins over to such a talented successor."

The Sun is Britain's biggest selling newspaper, with a daily circulation of more than three million copies.
