Minister defends vetting scheme

Parents who regularly drive children for sports or social clubs will have to be vetted or face fines of up to £5,000 under new rules.

The Vetting and Barring Scheme has sparked controversy, but the government said its goal was child safety.

Children's Minister Delyth Morgan said many people would be already covered by existing checks. She said the number one priority was safeguarding children.
