Funding cuts 'could hurt' flower battle
Battle of Flowers competition
Some private exhibitors may decide not to enter the competition
Cuts in funding for this year's Jersey Battle of Flowers competition could reduce the number of private exhibitors able to take part, it has been claimed.

The chairwoman of St Helier Battle of Flowers Association said funding from the island's Battle of Flowers Association had been cut by 10%.

Fee Roberts explained she knew of a number of private exhibitors who could be forced to pull out of this year's display because of problems with funding.

Knock-on effect

"We get a guarantee from the main Battle of Flowers Association, but unfortunately, due to their lack of funding this year, this has been reduced by 10%.

"We are going to have to make up that shortfall as well," she said.

"It is definitely going to have a knock-on effect.

"There are some private entries that we know of that are actually considering pulling out this year because they are not going to be able to fund the floats as they have done in previous years."
