A decision on the legality of civil partnerships for same-sex couples in Jersey is due next month, the chief minister's department said. Currently same-sex couples do not have the same rights as married couples. After inviting public comment, Jersey's legislation advisory panel suggested a draft law allowing civil partnerships for same-sex couples be drawn up. States members have been invited to decide whether to allow this draft law be created on 20 October. The Civil Partnerships Act legally recognising such agreements between same-sex couples was passed in England and Wales four years ago.
