Obama 'resolved to confront' piracy

US President Barack Obama has said he is resolved to "halt the rise of piracy" off the Somali coast.

Mr Obama was speaking after the successful rescue of Captain Richard Phillips in an operation which saw American naval snipers open fire on the pirates holding him in a lifeboat, killing three outright.
