In pictures: Girl found after 18 years

Jaycee Lee Dugard, pictured aged 11, was abducted in 1991. Eighteen years later she was identified when she and two children accompanied her alleged kidnapper to his parole meeting in the city of Concord, near San Francisco.

The alleged kidnapper Phillip Garrido, a 58-year-old convicted sex offender, and his wife Nancy have been taken into custody by police. The two children, aged 15 and 11, were Ms Dugard's and allegedly fathered by him.

This was the Dugard family home in South Lake Tahoe, California, where Jaycee was living with her parents when she was abducted on 10 June 1991. It is 200 miles (322km) away from the Garrido property in a San Francisco suburb.

Ms Dugard was bundled into a car by an unidentified man and woman as she walked within sight of her home to a school bus stop, a witness said.

Ms Dugard was then held prisoner with her children in a ramshackle collection of tents and outbuildings "hidden" in the backyard of the Garrido home. They never saw a doctor or attended school, police say.

There is no sign from the Garrido's main home of the secret encampment behind, which US police have described as a "backyard within a backyard."

Police also discovered a car which matched a description of the vehicle used in the abduction. It was removed for examination.

As investigators continued to search the Garrido home, Ms Dugard was said to have been in good spirits when her identity was revealed, although living in a backyard for 18 years had taken its toll, police said.

Carl Probyn reacts to televised news conference

Carl Probyn, 60, Ms Dugard's stepfather, said he was immensely relieved that she had been found. He had, he said, been living as a suspect for the past 18 years.
