Festive overspend on credit cards
News-in-brief graphic
Credit card users in the UK spent an average of 136 more than they planned over Christmas according to a new survey.

Research by the credit card company Accucard found that younger people were more likely to have gone overboard on the plastic.

Nearly half of those aged between 25 and 34 overspent by an average of 282, while 13% of those aged under 34 spent between 500-1000 more than they had intended during December.

And many younger people may struggle to pay-off their credit card debts.

"It seems inevitable that people will overspend during the silly season, but what is worrying is that young people are getting in over their head by overspending on their credit cards," said Accucard's Martin White.
