Sir Michael Bishop, the founder of the airline BMI, has spent 45 years in the airline industry.
Earlier this year he sold his 50% holding of the company to the German carrier Lufthansa for £223 million in a deal he agreed with them over 10 years before.
He was also one of the first business leaders to disclose his homosexuality and says there is still prejudice in the industry although things have improved.
He spoke to the BBC's Business Editor, Robert Peston, for Leading Questions.
