Sandwiches, drinks, checking in bags, checking in yourself at the airport... Just some of the things airlines charge passengers for.
The cost of these "extras" with airlines flying out of the UK can be as little as a couple of pounds to as much as £150.
British Airways is the latest to introduce a new charge.
In its case, it is for customers who want secure a seat more than 24 hours before their flight.
From Wednesday the booking fee will be between £10 and £60 per flight, depending on which class you're in. Exit seats will cost £50 and are bookable between four and 10 days before take-off.
