Sky+HD now reaches 1.6m households

BSkyB has reported a 40% rise in first quarter profits, helped by strong demand from new customers for high definition viewing. The broadcaster achieved pre-tax profits of £180m in the three months to 30 September, up from £129m a year ago. Strong demand for Sky+HD added another 287,000 customers, a threefold improvement on the previous year. The number of people leaving Sky rose to 11.3% from 9.9% after an increase in the price of subscriptions.
