Pop veterans Culture Club have split from their record label Virgin, the group's manager has confirmed.

The four-piece, led by flamboyant frontman Boy George, rocketed to fame in the early 1980s with hits such as Do You Really Want To Hurt Me? and Karma Chameleon.

But their recent comeback failed to make an impact on the charts, and the group are now hoping to tie up new contracts after parting company with Virgin.

Manager Tony Gordon told BBC News Online: "We actually split from Virgin a year ago, and we've now got three potential deals on the table now.

"We had a situation that wasn't going anywhere with Virgin, and we didn't want to rely on the past, so we decided to look elsewhere."

Possible deals include signing with Chrysalis subsidiary Papillion in the UK.

After their 1980s success, Culture Club - Boy George, Jon Moss, Roy Hay and Mikey Craig - split in acrimonious circumstances, after George's relationship with Moss broke up, and the singer became addicted to heroin.

But the group reunited in 1998, and the following year they recorded a comeback album, Don't Mind If I Do - the group's first new record in 15 years.

Away from the band, Boy George - whose real name George O'Dowd - has become equally well-known to a younger generation of fans as one of the UK's leading club DJs.

The 39-year-old, who hosts a radio show syndicated to commercial stations around the country, also runs his own record label, Things To Come.
