BBC News | ENTERTAINMENT | Health scare for sitcom star Inman

Actor John Inman, the star of the sitcom Are You Being Served?, is in hospital after a health scare.

The cult star, known for his catchphrase "I'm free", has spent three days in intensive care, hospital staff confirmed.

Mr Inman, 65, was admitted to London's St Mary's Hospital with severe breathing difficulties late on Wednesday night.

Mr Inman is recovering in a general ward

He spent three days in the hospital's intensive treatment unit (ITU) but was moved to a general ward on Friday night.

A hospital spokesman said: "He is in a stable condition and was certainly kept in ITU for three days, but he has been moved to a general ward where he will probably remain for some time."

Mr Inman played camp salesman Mr Humphries in the long-running BBC comedy series for a decade from the mid-70s.

He starred alongside Wendy Richard, who now plays Pauline Fowler in EastEnders, Molly Sugden, Frank Thornton and Trevor Bannister.

Mr Inman has also starred in the feature film of the series and an Australian version of the show, as well as numerous pantomime 'dame' appearances.
