The 1994 film was already the biggest-selling home video, having sold 32 million copies on VHS before the re-release.

The new version includes an extended version of the film, with a new song from The Lion King stage show.

DVD sales accounted for 92% of the three million copies.

Allen's story sparks book frenzy

Reports that director Woody Allen is ready to write his autobiography have sparked a frenzy from publishers at this year's Frankfurt Book Fair.

"There is huge interest. If he were to write it, we think it would be the autobiography of the decade," said Caroline Michel from HarperCollins' HarperPress.

Allen, 67, who has made almost 40 films, has been married three times.

He split from actress Mia Farrow in 1992 and married her adopted daughter, Soon-Yi, five years later.

Butter and shoe 'art' puzzles Swedes

A copycat artist is thought to be responsible for 70 pairs of shoes filled with butter left on a Swedish mountain.

The trainers, children's shoes, high heels, boots and tap shoes were found by hikers at an isolated spot in the Jaemtland province on Sunday.

Local journalists were sent an anonymous link to an internet page showing butter-filled shoes by Chinese artist Yin Xiuzhen in 1996.

"If we knew who had done this we could make them clean this mess up," a province spokesman said.

Manilow helps fire victims

Singer Barry Manilow has donated $25,000 (�15,000) to families made homeless in a fire in the New York district where he grew up.

"He read the headlines in the newspaper about the fire on a street a block from where he lived," his publicist said.

The money will go to a Red Cross fund that will provide food, medicine, clothing and shelter for the families.

The fire on Saturday in the Williamsburg area of the city damaged three buildings and a synagogue, but no-one was injured.

Iraq 'yearning for books'

Iraqi publishers have said the country is ready and eager for the literary scene in the country to get back on its feet.

Book industry workers at this week's Frankfurt Book Fair said there was a huge thirst for knowledge after the reign and fall of Saddam Hussein.

"There is a pent-up demand for knowledge. People want to learn about other countries. They have enormous expectations," said Shah Muhammad Rais, a publisher in Baghdad.

And Khalid al-Maaly, an Iraqi-born publisher, said: "The people do not just need bread, we think books are among the most important things Iraq needs."

Bo Selecta wins comedy award

Channel 4 comedy Bo Selecta has been named funniest show on television at a new comedy awards.

The Laftas have been launched by lads' magazine Loaded and also saw honours for BBC Radio 1's new Breakfast Show host Chris Moyles and ITV presenters Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly.

Bo Selecta - which features rubber masks and bizarre celebrity impersonations - has become a cult favourite.
