Sven's love stories set for stage

The play will also look at the media frenzy surrounding his private life
The tangled love life of England football manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has inspired a play that will be staged in his native Sweden next month.

The show centres on an unnamed Swede who manages England and has English-, Swedish- and Italian-speaking lovers.

Mr Eriksson is in a relationship with Italian Nancy Dell'Olio but had affairs with British FA secretary Faria Alam and Swedish TV host Ulrika Jonsson.

The play was "based loosely" on him, its spokeswoman Cecilia Johansson said.

The work, called A Play in Swedish, English and Italian, was written by British playwright Nick Grosso, whose plays have previously been staged at London's Royal Court and National Theatre.

The story contained "free fantasies" inspired by the manager's life, Ms Johansson said. "But it's definitely not a biography.

"It's a relationship comedy that's been twisted into the realm of the absurd."

The play also deals with the workings of the British tabloid press, she said. "A lot of it is about the British media horde."

The show will open in Stockholm on 8 April and could move to London's West End if successful, she added.

Last year, Mr Eriksson criticised Britain's "sick interest" in his private life.
