The Venice Film Festival has begun with an Italian film for the opening night, Guiseppe Tornatore's Sicilian-based family epic Baaria.
The film is set in Tornatore's home town of Bagheria, near Palermo in Sicily. He spoke to the press about the film, and was joined by Ennio Morricone who composed the music.
