Myrtle the Turtle is set free
Myrtle the Turtle
Myrtle the Turtle was found off Guernsey in February
Guernsey's adopted turtle, Myrtle, has been declared fit enough to be released into waters off Gran Canaria.

The turtle was discovered in local waters in February, hundreds of miles from her native home.

She was rescued by the GSPCA, who arranged for special tests to be carried out to try and find out exactly where she came from.

She was then transported to the Canaries, where specialist vets monitored her progress before releasing her last Friday.

Myrtle was quite weak when she was rescued off the Guernsey coast and had to be nursed back to health by members of the GSPCA, before she was declared fit to travel.

GSPCA Director of Operations Jayne Le Crasm said Myrtle's release was a happy ending for everyone who had been involved with the turtle's recovery.
