Organisers are hoping to inject some new energy into the show
Organisers of Jersey's Battle of Flowers have called on the public to help give the show a boost.

Battle Chairman Tony Perkins said this year's event had not been as busy as he had hoped.

Mr Perkins is hoping people will come up with constructive ideas about changes to the annual extravaganza.

An open meeting is being held on Thursday in St Lawrence Parish Hall at 1930.

Lack of interest in the Battle of Flowers this year meant that St Martin Battle of Flowers Association did not enter a float.

It is now looking for volunteers of all ages to help build a float for next year's show.

In Guernsey, the finale of the Battle of Flowers display was criticised for a poor turnout this year.

The first Battle of Flowers in Jersey took place on 9 August 1902, as a celebration for the coronation of Edward VII.

The Battle began as a flower parade, but along the route the flowers were torn off and thrown to the spectators. They threw them back, and the Battle was born.
