There have been more attacks against Jewish property in France.

Arsonists attacked five synagogues and a Jewish school in various parts of the country.

There has been a spate of similar incidents in recent days, many of them in the suburbs of Paris which have large Arab populations.

Police have linked the attacks to the violence in the Middle East.

The French Prime Minister, Lionel Jospin, says those involved will be dealt with harshly. Meanwhile, police and volunteers in Britain have stepped up security around Jewish properties in case the French attacks spill over into Britain.
