The charity hopes the award may encourage more volunteers
A Guernsey charity is celebrating after receiving a national award.

The Guernsey Society for the Physically Disabled has won the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service in recognition of its efforts to help people with disabilities.

The group at the Ron Short centre was nominated by local man Tony Spensley.

Chairwoman, Jackie Tebbutt, says the award is an important achievement which she hopes will encourage more people to volunteer their services.

She said: "It's very prestigious because there are only another 100 groups in the whole of the country that have won this award.

"Along with most voluntary groups, we do struggle to encourage people to come and support us and help us on a long-term basis."
