The scheme was first introduced to the island in 2007

More than 350 students have signed up to a proof of age card scheme which has been relaunched in Guernsey. The Citizencard initiative aims to reduce under-age drinking and cut drink-fuelled anti-social behaviour. Drug and alcohol strategy co-ordinator Andrea Nightingale said her office was "amazed with the response", as it was initially hoping about 250 would apply. Anybody who has signed up to the scheme should receive their card some time this week, she said. The scheme was first tried on the island in 2007 and promoted in schools, but did not take off. It has been reintroduced with more publicity. It has been backed by the States, Guernsey Police, licensees, local retailers and the UK Government. Ms Nightingale said she was hoping to work with the Social Security Department to ensure people who were aged 18 but had left school before they reached that age also signed up.
