Allotment meeting held on island

Allotment
Waiting lists for allotments have dramatically increased in recent years

Gardening enthusiasts who registered interest in one of several new allotments on the Isle of Man have attended a public meeting.

The plots, in Braaid, were announced by president of the Manx National Farmers' Union Howard Quayle last month.

He said he had been "overwhelmed" by the response ahead of the meeting at the Braaid Hall on Saturday.

Mr Quayle said he was hopeful everyone who applied would be given a "substantial" allotment.

The meeting, at 1430 GMT, was originally scheduled to take place at the field in Braaid, but was moved to Braaid Hall as interest was so high.
