Farm wage rises after three years

The change in earnings reflects the state of the industry
Wages in the Jersey farming industry have gone up for the first time in three years.

Although the average wage on the island has increased by more than 3%, farm workers have seen a rise of slightly less than 1%.

Last year the wage for a farm worker in Jersey dropped from the previous year by 2.5%.

That has begun to recover now, although it is still not at the same level of wage increases for other sectors.

Dr Tim De Feu from Jersey's statistics unit says the change in the earnings for farmers is down to the current state of the industry.

Wages for people in the transport and communications industry went up the most, rising by more than 5%.
