Bull semen imports worry farmers
Farmers will be protesting in Jersey's Royal Square on Tuesday to show their opposition to plans to allow bull semen to be imported to the island.

Jersey's politicians are due to begin discussing it as part of a new strategy for the countryside.

The issue was raised by members of the Royal Jersey Agricultural Society two years ago and nearly led to its committee being voted out.

Farmers will be in Royal Square with a Jersey cow ahead of the debate.

The Economic Development Committee is proposing allowing semen to be imported for use among the pure bred Jersey cow population.

However, dairy farmers are concerned it would threaten the island herd's unique status.
