Kite surfers in Jersey could be asked to abide by a code of conduct to minimise the impact the sport has on the island's environment.
It follows concerns by birdwatchers that kite surfing could be disrupting local populations.
The issue will be discussed at a meeting of the Societe Jersiaise, attended by a kite surfer and a member of the Environment Department.
A Societe spokesman said there was no question of trying to stop the sport.
Nicholas Joualt said he was confident an agreed way forward that suits both sides could be achieved.
He told BBC News: "We don't want to stop these activities, but we do want to see a good code of conduct and best practice going on."
