Jersey carries out swine flu test

GPs across the island have been given supplies of anti-viral drugs

Four people in Jersey are being tested for swine flu.

The information was confirmed earlier by Dr Rosemary Geller, the island's chief medical officer of health.

The States of Jersey health department has released no further details and it is not known whether the four people are from the island.

In the UK, five people have now been confirmed as having the virus, including a 12-year-old girl pupil at Paignton Community College in Devon.

Earlier Dr Geller said the island would be well prepared to deal with a case of the respiratory virus.

The antiviral drug Tamiflu has being given out to GPs across the island.

People are being advised that mouth and hand hygiene is one of the best ways to help reduce the chance of transmitting the virus.
