The Sri Lankan army says it is continuing to make advances in its offensive against the Tamil Tigers in the north-east.
The army captured the last remaining major rebel base of Mullaitivu on 25 January.
BBC reporter Chris Morris, who was taken to Mullaitivu, says it is a ghost town, full of broken buildings.
The pro-rebel TamilNet released pictures of civilians it says are caught up in the fighting, accusing the army of "indiscriminate artillery barrages".
Soldiers have been dealing with heavy monsoon rain and fierce resistance from the rebels.
The army says it is moving north from the town to secure the last rebel-held coastline.
It has also headed into the jungles to tackle the rebel bases there. Rights groups have expressed fears for 250,000 trapped civilians.
The Tigers have released no pictures of the clashes recently, but in December showed women fighters in the region.
The army secured the strategic Elephant Pass on 9 January, sandwiched between the capture of the rebels' de facto capital, Kilinochchi, and Mullaitivu.
