Supporters of the African National Congress (ANC) have been celebrating what looks set to be a clear victory for the party in South Africa's general election.

Thousands of ANC supporters dressed in the party's colours have joined lively celebration rallies in Johannesburg.

The populist party leader Jacob Zuma is expected to be appointed the country's next president.

He danced on stage before thanking his supporters, but warned them they were "not celebrating victory yet".

Preliminary results show the ANC is set for a resounding victory, with the opposition Democratic Alliance trailing in second place.

The poll is the country's fourth since the end of apartheid 15 years ago, and has been its most competitive yet.
