Nations across the Indian Ocean nations have been marking the fifth anniversary of the tsunami that killed nearly 250,000 people in 14 countries.
In Indonesia's province of Aceh - where some 170,000 people perished - people prayed at mass graves and mosques for the lost.
In Thailand, Buddhist monks led prayers on beaches to remember nearly 5,500 tsunami victims, about half of whom were foreign tourists.
Giorgio Capriccioli, an Italian national, placed flowers in the sea on Thailand�s Phuket island � one of the worst-hit areas of the country.
Mourners on Phuket later lit candles on the white sand beaches.
They then released hundreds of lanterns into the night sky.
In Sri Lanka - where more than 40,000 people were killed - people prayed at mass graves and also observed two minutes of silence at the exact time when the deadly waves struck the island.
