Peter Mandelson has denied former minister Stephen Byers's claim that he approached the business secretary with a view to changing government policy to benefit a private company.

Channel 4's Dispatches programme has aired undercover footage of Stephen Byers making the claim, when he was approached by a fictional US firm looking to hire him for lobbying work.

He has been suspended by the Parliamentary Labour Party, but denies any wrongdoing and has referred himself for a parliamentary standards inquiry.
