If I were prime minister: Anurag Sharma

India will be holding elections over the course of one month from 16 April.

BBC News asked people from all corners of the world's largest democracy what they would do if they were prime minister.

ANURAG SHARMA, IT CONSULTANT, NOIDA, UTTAR PRADESH

Anurag Sharma

My first priority as a prime minister would be to pursue strong economic measures to put the country's economic growth on a fast track.

While doing this, I would take utmost care that the interests of the poor and people of rural backgrounds are given a boost as they form the backbone of the country's social and economic fabric. I would enhance the public distribution system and increase subsidies to the farmers.

I would improve India's foreign policy and make an all out effort to wipe away terrorism from our land. There has been enough talk about terrorism and time now calls for action because we all have witnessed that no amount of bilateral discussions is going to work.

Finally, I would work to eradicate social evils like nepotism, bribery and corruption at all levels and install honest and upright officers at key positions.
