India will be holding elections over the course of one month from 16 April.
BBC News asked people from all corners of the world's largest democracy what they would do if they were prime minister.

Most of the leading politicians who have a good chance of being the next prime minister are above 60 years. This is incongruous for a country whose average age is about 25.1 years. If I were to become the prime minister of India, the first legislation that I would put forward would be to limit the age of people who can vie for a public office to 65.
India ranks 83rd in corruption, according to Transparency International. Corruption should be minimised and the common people must be given a chance to vent their grievances.
I believe that if the country grows strong and independent from inside, the day would not be far when India would be invited to become a member of the UN's Security Council.
Any efforts to disturb peace in India by terrorists will be dealt with very seriously by my government.
