Ahead of celebrations to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the BBC News Website asked a range of Chinese people what their country had achieved and where it will be in another six decades.
Aaron Kuang, 25, Telecommunications engineer, Guangzhou
Now that the PRC is 60 years old, I am glad to say that the changes during the past 60 years were impressive. The Chinese people have achieved the peace they were longing for. The world is changing so fast, China must do her best to follow the changes, because compared to the US and Europe we are lagging behind. Our biggest challenge in the past was poverty. Now it's corruption - it's our problem number one. I have confidence that China will become a superpower in the next 60 years. In the next 60 years we'll bring Chinese culture to every corner of the earth. But this should happen through peace, not violence. The most important issue to Chinese people in the next 60 years will be Taiwan. Taiwan needs to come back to us but there are still too many misunderstandings between us, so we need time and we need to make great effort to understand each other. There is a long way to go.
