Boy 'relieved' to have answer for defect

Eighteen families from Northamptonshire have won a legal battle to acknowledge that their children's birth defects are linked to exposure to toxic waste.

The families claimed that Corby Borough Council was negligent when it cleaned up a steelworks site during the 1980s and 1990s.

The council says it is "disappointed and surprised" by the judgment.

Curtis Thorpe, who was born with a defect to one of his hands, says he is pleased to know how it was caused.
