A 53-year-old woman who lives in a flat in Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, thought she had been burgled when she found a window smashed.

She called in the police who took samples of blood from the broken window.

When it was DNA-tested they found to their amazement that they were dealing with a marsupial and not a burglar.

Police said: "It appears the animal, which has not been traced, fell into the basement area and broke the window."

The incident happened on 27 May - just over a week before a witness described seeing a monkey breaking and entering a flat in Hackney and making off with a mobile phone and electrical equipment.
