The bodies of two women were found 400 feet down a cliff face at Beachy Head, near Eastbourne, on Friday.

Detectives are no longer treating the deaths as suspicious, despite initial reports that one of the women had been tied and gagged.

The deaths are also believed to be unrelated and the two women are thought to have fallen separately and landed on the same ledge by chance.

'Bound and gagged'

Both bodies were recovered by a cliff-top rescue team after being spotted on Friday.

Sussex Police would not comment on reports from a source close to the investigation that he had seen one of the women bound and gagged before the bodies were removed.

Inquests into the deaths are due to open in the next few days.

One of the dead women was named as Elizabeth Taylor, 39, from Eastbourne, East Sussex.

The cliffs on the Sussex coast are well known as a suicide spot.
