Airport passenger numbers soar
Leeds Bradford Airport has seen a record-breaking number of travellers this summer.
Between May and September nearly 800,000 passengers used the airport. This beat the previous record which was set in 2000. August 2002 also saw a new record for passengers using the airport in a single month, with 166,252 people flying in and out. More services Routes which saw the largest increases were to Dublin, Belfast, Edinburgh and Amsterdam. Airport managers put the success down to the introduction of new routes and upgraded services. Passengers can now fly from LBA to Gatwick, Cork and Bristol. Ed Anderson, LBA managing director, said: "These figures are tangible proof of the contribution that Yorkshire's premier airport is making to the region's economy. "As well as celebrating the record numbers currently being achieved, we are busy planning for significant growth over the next few years."
