Council employs horse power
Bruno with owner Stella Cornell in Cottage Plantation
Bruno can drag logs of up to 25 feet
A Norfolk council has brought in a new contractor to clear woodland after the autumn gales - a draught horse.

Bruno, a Suffolk Punch Horse, has been taken on by Broadland District Council to help remove fallen branches from Cottage Plantation in Sprowston, and Sprowston and Horsford Woods.

Tree contractors decided to employ a horse after realising that heavy machinery would damage the undergrowth.

Bruno, who comes from Chesterton in Cambridgeshire, can haul logs up to 25 feet long.

The chestnut horse, who stands at 16.1 hands, will work for about three days in each wood.

The Suffolk Punch Horse is said to be the oldest and rarest form of heavy horse in the UK.
