The injured police officer and firefighter were treated in hospital

The uniformed policeman was rammed while controlling traffic at the scene of a fire in Easton.

He was treated for cuts and bruises at Bristol Royal Infirmary.

Police spokesman Inspector Clive Collins said: "He was performing traffic duties when he was deliberately driven at and knocked down by a stolen car."

Fireman hurt

He said the red Fiat Uno, registration G324 XHT, was stolen by thieves who took its keys during a burglary in Easton in September.

The officer was hit while diverting traffic away from the scene of a fire which damaged a terraced house in St Mark's Road on Friday night.

The two men who were in the car ran off after abandoning the vehicle in a neighbouring street.

A firefighter was injured in the blaze which damaged the roof space of a house in St Mark's Terrace and spread to two adjoining properties.

He was treated in hospital for a knee injury after being hit by falling debris.
