Under age drink sales crack down
Teenager and bottle
The initiative aims to cut youth disorder fuelled by alcohol
Police and trading standards officers have joined forces to clamp down on under age drinking across Darlington and County Durham.

Darlington Council, Durham County Council and Durham Police have drawn up a protocol of working practices.

This enables them to share intelligence and take part in joint operations targeting off-licences.

Youngsters will help make test purchases to check stores are not selling alcohol to under age drinkers.

Sergeant Tim Kelly, of the south area licensing unit, said: "Our aim is to have an impact on anti-social behaviour and youth disorder fuelled by alcohol.

"If evidence is obtained regarding any premises selling alcohol on more than one occasion, including as a result of test purchase operations, the police licensing unit may apply to the licensing committee for that area, seeking a review of that premises' licence."
