Tourism South East is targeting the Chinese market

A tourism boss for the south-east of England is heading to the Beijing Olympics in a bid to put the region on the map in time for the 2012 Games.

Karen Roebuck, head of marketing for Tourism South East (TSE), will fly to the city in August as part of the organisation's GO! China campaign.

TSE has also set up a special website to help trade visitors from China.

The organisation hopes to attract an extra 1bn worth of revenue to the region by 2017.

Ms Roebuck said: "The games in both Beijing and London are presenting us with an unprecedented opportunity to market to the world, particularly to China and Asia-Pacific countries.

"By visiting Beijing I can ensure that we continue the development of key relationships and secure new international business partnerships for the South East."

TSE represents the tourism industry in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Kent and Surrey.
