Man charged with woman's killing

A man has been charged following the death of a woman in County Durham.

Carol Chambers, 48, of Simpson Road, West Auckland, died in Darlington Memorial Hospital on Monday after being taken ill over the weekend.

The mother-of-three had suffered a serious head injury, a Durham Police force spokesman confirmed.

A 66-year-old man was charged with her manslaughter on Friday night and will appear before south Durham magistrates on Saturday.
