Schools, colleges, nurseries and pre-schools were back to normal in Cambridgeshire, Essex, Northamptonshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.
Drivers were still advised to take extra care on the roads especially in countryside areas that gritters have not reached.
Rail services were also recovering with normal services on most lines.
